Oliver’s Mount has been used as a venue for real road racing since at least the 1950s and the short, technical course set in beautiful parkland has attracted all the big names including Geoff Duke, Barry Sheene and Giacomo Agostini. Today’s crop of real roads specialists nearly all make the trek across the Pennines every September for the Gold Cup, the traditional end of the real roads season.
Previous winners of the cup have included Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, Guy Martin and, in 2014, Ivan Lintin. For 2015 the entry list was impressive, although it didn’t feature Guy Martin, still sidelined by his Dundrod injuries. Nonetheless, when you have Bruce Anstey, Ivan Lintin, William Dunlop, Dan Kneen, Lee Johnston, Dean Harrison, James Cowton and more on the start line you can hardly complain can you? Add to that a brilliant mix of sidecar competitors and you are guaranteed a great crop of edge-of-the-seat races – which is exactly what the official Review of the 2015 Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup Road Races delivers!
