This fifteen round championship saw contrasting fortunes for the front runners. Luca Cadalora (Rothmans Honda) made a scintillating start to his season winning the first three GPs. From a slow start, Helmut Bradl (Honda) came on strong at the end of the season to make a determined challenge for honours. Honda's domination of the class was challenged by the Italian Aprilia's of Loris Reggiani and Pier-Francesco Chilli, both of whom were to taste victory during the 91 season, whilst Suzuki showed promise of future success with their first foray into the 250 class for many years with the hard riding Martin Wimmer.
