It’s the Macau Grand Prix in 2003 and Steve Plater is
really leaning on it – literally!
In this breathtaking picture, Stephen Davison has
captured Plater making contact with the unforgiving concrete around the tight Macau street
circuit, where fortune favours the brave, and the lucky.
As Stephen records in his best-selling book Ragged Edge:
‘Perhaps the best thing about capturing this image in
2003 was Steve Plater’s reaction when I showed it to him in the pits a few
minutes later. He stared at it for a few moments in silence, then whopped in
jubilation and ran off with my digital camera to show his mechanics! It had
been an incredible moment as he plunged into the Solitude Esses just a little
too hot and brushed his shoulder along the yellow wall on the exit. You are
never sure if you’ve caught the picture: if you see it through the camera it
usually means you have missed it…..after I showed him the picture, Steve showed
me the yellow paint on his shoulder; we both had our trophies from the day.’
