The 1990s were a decade of high drama and excitement in the World Motorcycle Championship. Unbeknownst to fans, riders and teams, the ‘90s represented the final flourishing of the now legendary 500cc two-stroke legends which made stars of Rainey, Schwantz, Doohan and others who had the skills to tame the wild beasts – and severely punished many of those whose talent didn’t quite measure up to the daunting task.
With the result of each race balanced on a knife-edge, classic racing circuits across the globe playing host to these titanic showdowns and with larger-than-life characters filling the grids and letting off steam in the paddocks it is hard not to think of the ‘90s as a golden era of Grand Prix Racing!
