Yamaha A Racing History 1954-2016

In the annals of motorcycle racing has there been a stranger transformation than Yamaha’s? Famous even before the Second World War for their excellent musical instruments, in the aftermath of Japan’s shattering defeat they recognised the need for a cheap and affordable form of transport to get the country moving again.

From these inauspicious beginnings there rose one of the mightiest forces in global motorcycle sport. The road racing achievements of the company are too many to list but just consider some of the greats who have achieved world championships riding their products: Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read, Freddie Spencer, Eddie Lawson, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo - amongst many others.

This new documentary from Duke delves into the archive to gather together early racing shots of bikes with the famous triple tuning forks on the tank. It’s also full of fascinating interviews with key riders, mechanics and others who have had input into the success of the brand. Yamaha's 1972 Grand Prix Season

This newly restored film from the Woods archive contains rare footage of the 1972 Grand Prix season focussing on Yamaha’s 125cc, 250cc and 350cc efforts. Highlights from rounds at the Isle of Man TT (hit by horrendous weather - the last time Ago raced there), Dutch TT at Assen (Including rare aerial footage), Spa-Francorchamps and interview with riders featured include Jarno Saarinen, Rod Gould and Chas Mortimer.
