Description

The Sauber-Mercedes C9 'Group C' sportscar was introduced in 1987 as a continuation of the partnership between Sauber as a constructor and Mercedes-Benz as an engine builder.  It was powered by a 5.0 litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produced 700-800bhp in qualifyinhg trim and circa 650bhp for racing, given that reliability and fuel economy were crucial factors for success in endurance racing.

After a couple of challenging seasons in 1987 and 1988, mainly due to reliability issues, it started to really come together for the team in 1989 and they won all but one round of the World Sportscar Championship.  And at the Le Mans 24 hour race that year, the C9 finished first and second overall and the car was clocked at a staggering 400 kph (248 mph) down the Mulsanne Straight! This t-shirt from the 'Group C Icons' collection, is our tribute to Mercedes' contribution to a captivating era in four-wheeled motorsport.
